Canterbury Cathedral became a place of pilgrimage because many sick people go there in hope of a miracle cure.

TIME IN HISTORY: years 1154, 1161, 12th century

MAIN CHARACTERS: Henry II, Thomas Becket



MAIN EVENTS:
- The Archbishop of Canterbury recommended Thomas Becket to the king.
- Henry made Thomas Chancellor of England.
- After seven years, in 1161, things changed drastically. - Although Thomas didn't want it, Henry named him Archbishop of Canterbury, the highest position in the land. 
- Thomas became very popular.
- Four of his knights went directly to Canterbury and cut Becket down with their swords.
- When the King heard about the crime, he became so desperate that he locked himself in the castle for five weeks.
- Later he went to Canterbury to mourn on his friend's tomb.
